Black Out

Matte black is a cross category color and texture trend that has been used on everything from cars to kitchenware. Used all over, matte black lends these furniture and lighting designs an air of sophisticated luxury.


Contemporary flat pack brand ‘One Nordic Furniture Company‘ produces its bentwood Bento chair in black-stained ash with matching black upholstery.


The simple round form of Toto’s Waza® Noir™ Cast Iron Vessel washbasin brings a sense of tranquility to the bathroom. The colors, Matte black and Tuxedo, are inspired by the spectrum of black Japanese inks called “Sumi” that are used in traditional calligraphy artwork.


Launched earlier this year, the square and circular Iso tables by Parisian studio Pool for Petite Friture have graphic black powder-coated steel frames that play with perspective and pattern.


The dark base of Pinch’s Derome table lamp is made from black-stained solid tulip wood that closely matches the dark tones of the black linen shade.


Prague-based designers Jan Plecháč and Henry Wielgus have launched a series of flatpack coffee tables called Ondulé.  Made from glass and folded concertina metal, the tables are available in matte black and blue colorways as well as a passivate metal finish.
